Harold Francis Randall, Jr., 77, a resident of Heatherwood Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, formerly of Narragansett Avenue, Newport, RI, died peacefully surrounded by his family on Sunday, July 26, 2009. He was the husband of Patricia A. (Moffitt) Randall. Born in Newport on November 4, 1931, he was the son of the late Harold F. and Brigid Agnes (Davey) Randall.

Fran was a civil servant at the Newport Naval Base for 31 years, retiring in the early 1990’s. He was a graduate of the former De La Salle Academy, Class of 1949. He was a decorated veteran of the United States Army serving during the Korean War.

Fran participated in many of his children’s activities with the St. Augustin’s CYO Basketball League, and the Newport Little League. He was a parishioner of St. Augustin’s Church and was an avid Red Sox, Patriots, and Celtics Fan. He was a wonderful father, grandfather, husband, and friend. He will be missed.

Besides his wife Patricia, he leaves his 6 children, Robert F. Randall and his wife Susan of Portsmouth, Linda E. Vakaros and her husband Frank of Brattleboro, VT, Elizabeth A. Matthews of Portsmouth, William G. Randall of Newport, Jennifer A. Martins and her husband Arthur of Fall River, MA, and David P. Randall and his wife Melissa of Newport; 11 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.

He was the father of the late Brian C. Randall, and the brother of the late Vivian C. Williams.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, July 30, 2009, at 10am, in St. Augustin’s Church, Carroll Ave, Newport. Burial at St. Columba Cemetery, Brown’s Ln, Middletown. Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, July 29, from 5-8pm in the O’Neill-Hayes Funeral Home, 465 Spring St., Newport, RI.

Donations in Fran’s memory may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN, 38105.
