South Kingstown – Elisabeth (Rice) Smart, 94, of Grandeville Court died Thursday, August 6, 2009 at home. She was the wife of the late H. Randall Smart, Jr.

Born in Coventry on the Rice family farm, a daughter of the late Howard B. and Mabelle (Collison) Rice, she was raised in Providence and on the Rice farm in Coventry. She had lived in Lincoln for 70 years and Providence for 10 years before moving to South County 2 years ago.

She was a graduate of Classical High School and a 1937 graduate of Pembroke College, now Brown University.

Mrs. Smart was an avid bridge player, golfer, and a community and church leader. She was a former member of Wannamoisett Country Club, Rumford and Glocester Country Club, Glocester. She was also a member of Sayles Memorial Church, Lincoln.

She was blessed with two children, Janice E. Smart Causey of Wakefield and Jeffrey R. Smart of Aspen, CO; her wonderful grandson, Christopher W. Causey of Charlestown; and several nieces and nephews. She was the beloved sister of the late H. Eliot Rice.

Her Memorial Service will be held WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 12 at 12 Noon in Sayles Memorial Church, 185 Chapel Street, Lincoln. Private burial will in Swan Point Cemetery, Providence.
