Rumford ~ Manuel C. Viveiros, 96, of Rumford Towers, passed away Friday, August 21, 2009. Born in Providence, a son of the late Joseph C. and Maria D. (Daniels) Viveiros, he resided in Cumberland and East Providence before moving to the Rumford section in 2000. He was a U.S. Navy Chief Petty Officer; he served in the Amphibious Forces in the Pacific during World War II. Mr. Viveiros was a graduate of the Rhode Island Electronics School and attended Wentworth Institute in Boston. A Licensed Real Estate Broker in Rhode Island and Massachusetts, he was the proprietor of the former Viveiros Realty, Seekonk for 22 years until 1975, and was the owner of the former Red Bridge and Town Cabs, East Providence. He was also a Money Room Mutual Clerk at Narragansett Park and Lincoln Downs for 38 years until retiring in 1985. Mr. Viveiros was an avid ballroom dancer and a life member of the Eugene T. Lefebvre VFW Post No. 1271, Central Falls. He leaves his daughter, Marilyn A. Viveiros of West Warwick; his son, Joseph E. Viveiros of Warwick; five grandchildren, Keith and Bill Prisco, and Brian, Laurie and Gregory Viveiros; several great-grandchildren and his companion, Olga Dixon of Rumford.
