Daniel R. Gooden, 84, of North Kingstown, died peacefully on September 12, 2009 at South County Hospital.

Born in Providence, he was a son of the late Daniel A. Gooden and Evelyn E. (Hurry) Gooden. He was the lifetime companion of Jerry Hubert.

Mr. Gooden was a graduate of Brown University and Rhode Island College, where he earned his teaching certificate. He served as an educator in the Providence School System.

He proudly served in the Army Air Corps during WWII and was a Korean War Veteran.

Mr. Gooden was an alcoholism counselor with Talbot House, Edgehill of Newport, High Point Treatment Center, and the Providence Center. He was a Spiritual Counselor and received his certification from Our Lady of Peace Retreat Center. Mr. Gooden was a member of the RI Association of Alcohol and Drug Counselors, a friend of “Bill W”, a volunteer at the North Kingstown Senior Center, and a communicant of St. Bernard Parish.

Mr. Gooden leaves three sisters, Eleanor A. Ouimette of Warwick, Dorothy A. Aldrin of Chapel Hill, NC, and Elizabeth A. D\'Amico of North Kingstown. He was the brother of the late James F. Gooden and Evelyn C. Morgan and cherished uncle to his nieces and nephews.

His funeral will be held Friday at 8:45 am from THE CRANSTON-MURPHY FUNERAL HOME of WICKFORD, 140 West Main Street, Wickford Village, North Kingstown. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am in St. Bernard Church, 275 Tower Hill Road, North Kingstown. Burial will be private. Relatives and friends are invited and may call Thursday from 4:00 to 8:00 pm at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, gifts in his memory to San Miguel School, 12 Carter Street, Providence, RI 02907 will be appreciated.
