Stephen Ribera, 54, of Newport, RI, regretfully passed away at 9am on Wednesday, September 16, 2009 at the Newport Hospital. He was the beloved son of Ann O’Neill of Newport.

A lifelong Newport resident, Stephen was a graduate of Rogers High School, class of 1973. He was a teacher of stained glass at the Swinburne School. He also owned a stained glass shop on Thames St.

Stephen earned a master gardeners degree at URI which paved the way for hin to be a gardener at many of Newport’s finer estates, such as Beacon Rock on Ocean Drive and Wysteria Lodge on Bellevue Avenue. Stephen won many blue ribbons for his roses and other flora in various floral competitions.

He is survived by his daughter Ellie of New York; his mother Ann O’Neill of Newport; his brothers Michael Ribera, Salvatore Ribera, Christopher Ribera, Roger Ribera, and Raphael Ribera; his sisters Carolyn Ware and Ellen McCallum, and his granddaughter Kaitlyn Ribera.

He was a son of the late Michael J. Ribera, father of the late Jacob Ribera, and the brother of the late James Ribera.

Visiting hours will be held on Monday, September 21, 2009, from 4-7pm in the O’Neill-Hayes Funeral Home, 465 Spring St., Newport, RI. A Memorial Service will be held at Brenton Point at a later date.
