Lester R Salisbury -- Cranston

Carpenter-Jenks Funeral Home and White Dove Crematory Lester R. Salisbury, 89 of Main Street Fiskeville, died Sunday September 27, 2009 at Miriam Hospital, Providence. He was the beloved husband of Lillian (Schofield) Salisbury, they had been married for 58 years.

Born in Scituate he was the son of the late Leroy and Lillian (Mason) Salisbury. Mr. Salisbury served in the U. S. Navy during World War II aboard the U. S. Thurston PA 77 in the invasions of North Africa, Normandy, Sicily, Guam, Guadalcanal, Corregidor, Bataan, Manila, Iwo Jima, Okinawa, and Siapan.
Mr. Salisbury was employed by the First National Stores for 42 years serving as a manager until retirement in 1982.
Mr. Salisbury was a past master of Warwick Lodge now affiliated with Mt. Vernon Lodge #4 F. & A. M and a member of St. John’s Lodge # 1 of Providence. He was a member of the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite Valley of Providence, was active in Boy Scouting where he was a member of the Boy Scouts “Over the Hill Gang”. Mr. Salisbury was a member of the Pawtuxet valley Historical Society and the Coventry Historical Society, and an active member of the Church of St. Andrew and St. Phillips now the Church of the Apostles of Coventry. He was an avid painter and gardener.

Besides his wife he is survived by his children; Susan J. Mroczka and her husband Peter of Foster, Stephen F. Salisbury and his wife Wendy of Lebanon, CT, Sonja J. Hanson of Fiskeville, and Scott J. Salisbury of Oregon, his grandchildren, Katelyn Mroczka, Andrew Mroczka, Eric Hanson, Ben Hanson, Chris Hanson, Sarah Salisbury, Amy Salisbury, Matthew Salisbury, John Salisbury and Michael Salisbury.

Friends may call at Carpenter-Jenks Funeral Home, 659 East Greenwich Avenue, West Warwick, Friday from 4-8 PM with a Masonic Memorial Service by Mt. Vernon Lodge at 7:30pm. Funeral service will be Saturday October 3, 2009 at 10:00 at the Church Of The Apostles, 170 Fairview Avenue, Coventry. Burial with full military honors will be in Highland Memorial Park, Johnston. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to the K. Hanson Educational Grant Fund, c/o Ed Nowak, 17 Buxton Drive Cranston, R. I. 02921.
