Merle McLaughlin Brennan, 93 of Warwick RI, died Sept. 27th in the presence of her family at Saint Elizabeth Home, East Greenwich RI.
In 1938, Merle received her BS Degree in Education degree from Northern State Teachers College in Aberdeen SD. She received her Masters Degree in Education from Rhode Island College in 1970.
She began her teaching career on a South Dakota Indian reservation and later as a Graduate Assistant in Engineering at Iowa State College. Merle taught for the 20 years prior to her retirement at Cranston (RI) East High School in the English Department. In 1979 she received the Cranston School Department Teacher of The Year.
After retirement, she volunteered in a court diversion program for juveniles in Florida. Merle was an avid reader, golfer and bridge player.
Her husband John (Jack) Rockefellow Brennan died in 1982. They married in Minneapolis MN in 1937.
Born in Aberdeen SD in 1915, the daughter of Edna (Giesen) McLaughlin and M.E. McLaughlin, she is survived by her sister Donna North [Dean] and pre-deceased by sister Joan and brother Robert. She is survived by son J. Patrick Brennan [Jane] Burlington, VT., son J. Michael Brennan [Mary Lou] Albany,NY, daughter Mary Seccareccia [Vince] Rehoboth, MA and son William C. (Bucky) Brennan [Mary] Jamestown, RI. Merle leaves 9 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
Internment will be beside her loving husband Jack in Aberdeen SD at a later date. A Catholic Mass of remembrance for Merle and Jack will take place in November.
