West Warwick – Robert M. Stetson, 79, of Lenox Avenue, passed away on Saturday, October 10, 2009 at Kent Hospital, Warwick after a thirty year fight with cancer.

He leaves his wife Judy, daughters Julie Lyons of West Warwick and Melissa Kaskel of East Greenwich, sons Dr. Brian Gadoury of Charlotte, NC and Robert Stetson and his beloved grandchildren Kaitlyn and Courtney Lyons and Robert Stetson. He was the brother of the late Carl H. Jr., Norman W., Lincoln M., Miles and Gordon F. Stetson.

Born in Providence, he was a son of the late Carl H. and Marion (Colvin) Stetson Sr. Bob was a graduate of Cranston High School where he was a quarterback and Captain of the football team. His stint at URI was cut short by the Korean War where he served four years in the Air Force. When he returned to RI he was a life guard and Beach Manager at Sand Hill Cove, now Roger Wheeler Beach. He taught ballroom dancing in schools throughout RI and sold cars for sixteen years at Paul Bailey’s Chrysler in North Kingstown.

He was a member of the Manton Seniors and UCT. He loved golf and was a member of a bowling league which he really enjoyed.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, October 14, 2009 at 10:00 AM in St. Mark’s Church, 60 Narragansett Avenue, Jamestown. Relatives and friends are invited and may call at Carpenter-Jenks Funeral Home, 659 East Greenwich Avenue, West Warwick on Tuesday from 4:00 – 8:00 PM.
