Lincoln – Mary J. Caires, known as Mary Jo, 86, died Sunday, October 18, 2009 at Waterview Villa Nursing Home, East Providence.

Born in Central Falls, a daughter of the late John and Maria (Figueira) Caires, she was a graduate of Central Falls High School.

She moved to Washington soon after High School to work in Civil Service for the Federal Government for many years. Subsequently, she moved to Long Beach, CA to become a Carmelite Nun for 25 years, which she later left, and moved to Folsom, CA where she lived with her friend, Clarisse Gordon until May, 2005 when she returned to Rhode Island to be taken care of by her family.

She is survived by her only sister, Alice Pequeno and her three nieces and one nephew, Joanne Avery, Corinne Handing, Gloria Caires and Benjamin Pequeno.

A Prayer Service will be held WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 21 at 6 P.M. at the BELLOWS-FALSO FUNERAL CHAPEL, 160 River Road, Lincoln. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery and Mausoleum, Sacramento, CA.
