Cranston – Margaret I. Irons, 90, formerly of Parkview Blvd., died Sunday at Pawtuxet Village Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Warwick. She was the beloved wife of the late Walter R. Irons.
Born in Woodside, NY she was a daughter of the late John W. and Mamie (Greene) Cairnes and had lived in Cranston since 1945. She worked as a teacher aide for ten years at the Cranston Day Care before retiring in 1986.
She was a member of People’s Baptist Church where she was a Sunday school teacher, a former deaconess, a member of the Board of Christian Education and for thirty years the superintendent of the pre-school department.
She is survived by one daughter Karen Carey and her husband Tom of Cranston, one sister Dorothy May of Warwick, four grandchildren Kristine L. Medeiros, Vincent C. Moranto, Mary E. Carey and Derek R. Aitchison, one step-grandson Kenneth Aitchison, one great granddaughter Morgan May Medeiros and two step-great granddaughters Lauren and Megan Medeiros. She was the mother of the late Janet M. Solsberg and was predeceased by four siblings.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday at 10:00 AM at Carpenter-Jenks Funeral Home & Crematory, 659 East Greenwich Ave., West Warwick. Calling hours Wednesday 5-8 PM. Burial will be in Highland Memorial Park, Johnston.
