Fortunato “Fortch” Carello passed away suddenly on Friday, October 30 th at the age of 90.
Born and raised in Providence, he was a Lieutenant in the U.S. Army Air Corps and served as a navigator in the 100 th Bomb Squad during World War II.
He graduated from Rhode Island College and began his life-long teaching and coaching career with positions at Parkview Junior High School, Warwick Veterans High School, Pilgrim High School, and Rhode Island Junior College where he chaired the mathematics department until his retirement.
He was an avid sports fan, dedicated family man, and trusted friend.
He is survived by his wife and best friend Joan W. Carello, his sons David Carello and Fred Carello, his daughter Susan Daniels, his grandchildren Roman and Francesca Daniels, his brothers Angelo Carello and Raymond Carello, and sisters Viola Ursini, Anne Victurine, and Dorothea Garvin. He was predeceased by his first wife Frances (Portella) Carello, his father Rosario Carello, his mother Marianna Tortoloni.
His Funeral Service will be held Monday at 10:00 am in THE URQUHART-MURPHY FUNERAL HOME, 800 Greenwich Avenue, Route 5, Warwick (Exit 12A on I-95). Burial, with military honors, will follow in R.I. Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Exeter. Relatives and friends are invited and may call Sunday 3-6 pm.
