William K. Hendry 95 died at home March 10th in Melbourne , Florida where he had lived since 2000.
He was the beloved husband of Florence (Robertson) Hendry for 63 years before her death in 2006.
Mr. Hendry was born in Great Falls, Montana a son of the late William and Elizabeth ( Kearney ) Hendry and grew up in Aberdeen, Washington. He graduated from Weatherwax High School and in 1934 joined and made a career in the United States Navy. He served on the USS Lexington, USS Idaho and the USS Concord. He retired as a Chief Warrant Officer in 1955 after 21 years of service.
Mr. Hendry had lived in California, South Carolina and Japan. After his retirement from the service he settled in Warwick where he worked for Evans Findings Company until his retirement in 1976. He moved to Great Island, Narragansett in 1973. While living in Warwick he was a member of the Asbury United Methodist Church where he was member of it’s choir, member of the Board of Trustees and chairman of the Christian Education Committee. While living in Narragansett he was a member of Christ United Methodist Church where he was a member of it’s choir. He also was a member of the Grayhounds which was a building committee that also did much of the labor during construction. He also was involved in Fish Fries that were held to raise money for the new church. While living in Florida He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Melbourne. Besides his church work Bill enjoyed working in his yard and ballroom dancing.
Mr. Hendry is survived by a son William R. Hendry of Melbourne Beach, Florida, Three daughters: Ann E. Hendry of Melbourne Beach, Florida, Susan Osborn of LaVerne, California and Margaret Mayo of Fairfax, Virginia, 7 Grandchildren and 3 Great Grandchildren
A memorial service will be held in Asbury United Methodist Church, corner of Fair and Ann Mary Brown Drive Warwick Saturday April 10th at 10 AM. Burial will be in New Pawtuxet Cemetery with Military Honors. Memorials may be made to The American Heart Association 20 Speen Street Framingham, MA 01701-4688. Local Arrangements by Carl R.
