Hamel, Howard L. Sr., 80, passed away on Monday June 28, 2010. He was the husband to the late Jacqueline (Atkinson) Hamel. Born in Cranston, he was the son of the late Henry J. and Helen (Nickerson) Hamel.
Howie was a vice president of Industrial National Bank, founder and manager of Pine Top Ski Area, general manager and owner of Aqua Dynamics and Harbor Boat Sales. He was an avid skier and boater. He is a combat veteran of the Korean War where he served as a Second Lieutenant Artillery in the Army.
He is survived by his four children: Howard L. and (Suzanne) Hamel of West Warwick, Lynn Hamel of West Warwick, Jean and (John) Horoho of Storrs, CT, Janet and (Antonio) Nagel-Rodrigues of Warwick, seven grandchildren: Nicole, Zachary, Kerry, Michael, Emily, Allison, and Matthew, one great-grandchild: Haylie, a sister-in-law: Doris Hamel of Coventry, one niece and nephew: Kendra and Kenneth and his special friend: Dorothy Wallace. He was brother to the late Ralph Hamel and husband to the late Dorothy (Leavitt) Hamel from a second marriage.
A Funeral Service will be held at Carpenter-Jenks Funeral Home & Crematory, 659 East Greenwich Avenue, West Warwick on Friday, July 2nd at 10 AM followed with interment at R.I. Veterans Cemetery in Exeter with military honors. Calling hours, Thursday from 5-7 PM.
