Rev. Dr. Camille C Bedard -- Middletown
Rev. Dr. Camille C. Bedard, 92, died Sunday, July 17, 2011 at the John Clarke Retirement Center in Middletown. He was the beloved husband of Juanita (Carpenter) Bedard. Rev. and Mrs. Bedard celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary on June 6, 2011.
Born in Providence, a son of the late Alexander and Annie (Mosher) Bedard, he was a long-time resident of both Massachusetts and New York before moving to Rhode Island many years ago.
A graduate of Pawtucket High School, Rev. Bedard earned his Bachelor’s degree from William Jewel College in Liberty, MO in 1943. Starting his Master’s degree studies at Brown University in 1943, Rev. Bedard’s Master’s degree in Theology was conferred upon him by Andover Newton Theological School in 1947. In 1968 he received an Honorary Doctor of Divinity degree from William Jewell College.
Rev. Bedard served four churches in Massachusetts from 1943-1964 including Valley Falls Baptist Church; Centre Street Baptist Church, Jamaica Plain; Federated Church, Ashland; and First Baptist Church, Hyannis. From 1964-1981 he served First Baptist Church in Bronxville, NY. He served out the remainder of his ministry as interim minister in fourteen churches from 1981-2008.
He served as past President of the Mt. Vernon (NY) Kiwanis Club, the Mt. Vernon YMCA board, the Mt. Vernon Ministers’ Council, the Bronxville, NY Ministers’ Council, the Baptist Home of RI and the John Clarke Retirement Center, Middletown, RI. He was also active with many denominational boards. Rev. Bedard was listed in the Who’s Who of Religion in 1975-1976. He also served as chaplain at Rhode Island Hospital in Providence from 1987-2008. He was a member of Aleppo Temple of Shriners from 1958-2008.
Besides his wife he is survived by his son Marc O. Bedard (and his wife, Lynne) of Coventry; his daughter-in-law Lynda Bedard of Providence; and his daughter-in-law Judy Bedard of Manchester, NH; seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren. He was the father of the late Peter C. and Curtis A. Bedard.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 23, 2011 at 2:30 PM at First Baptist Church in America, 75 North Main Street, Providence. Burial will be private.
