CRONAN, SISTER MARY FAUSTINA, 97, a Sister of Mercy and a retired educator, passed away Friday, February 10, 2012, at Mount St. Rita Health Centre, Cumberland.
Born in East Providence, she was the daughter of the late James and Anne (Grace) Cronan. She entered the Sisters of Mercy on September 8, 1931 and professed her vows on August 16, 1937.
Sister Faustina earned a B.S. in Education from the former Catholic Teachers College, Providence and B.A. from Salve Regina College (now University), Newport.
Sister Faustina taught junior high school classes in all her teaching ministries which included the former St Ann School, Providence, the former St. Joseph School, Pawtucket, the former St Patrick School, Valley Falls, the former St. Mary School, Pawtucket; the former St. Michael School, Providence, and the former St. Leo School, Pawtucket. In the later years of her education ministry, she served as librarian at St Leo School until her retirement in 1995.
In addition to her religious family, the Sisters of Mercy, she leaves a brother, John Cronan, of Barrington; a sister-in-law, Mary Cronan, and nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Mary Ward, Sister Rita Francis Cronan, RSM, James Cronan, and Edward Cronan.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, February 15, 2012, at 11 a.m. in Mount St. Rita Chapel, Cumberland. Visitation will be Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 10:50 a.m. at Mount St. Rita with a Mercy Prayer Service at 10:20 a.m. A burial ritual will take place at Resurrection Cemetery.
