Margaret G (Dube) Stewart -- Smithfield

Bellows Funeral Chapel Smithfield – Margaret G. (Dube) Stewart, 96, died Wednesday, September 26, 2012 at Cortland Place, Smithfield. She was the wife of the late Edward A. Stewart.

Born in Providence, a daughter of the late Joseph A. and Charlotte (Edgerly) Dube, she had lived in North Providence for over 50 years before moving to Maine. She had lived in Smithfield for the past 10 years.

Mrs. Stewart worked for the Town of North Providence before being elected Treasurer and later Finance Director for the Town of North Providence. She retired in 1980. She was a member of the Municipal Finance Officers and was the treasurer of the Citizens Scholarship in North Providence. She was instrumental in the fundraising for the building of the Boys & Girls Club on Woonasquatucket Avenue.

She was an avid bridge player.

She is survived by one daughter. Arline S. Elliott of Lincoln; two sons, Edward “Ted” Stewart of Jacksonville, FL and James P. Stewart of Chebeague Island, ME; one sister, Marie Barlow of Hobe Sound, FL; five grandchildren, Kathryn, Mary-Beth, Paul, Jason and Nathan (in spirit); ten great grandchildren, Jacqueline, Michael, Joshua, John Paul, Monique, Krystal, Camryn, Riley, Matthew and Meredith; one great great granddaughter, Astaria; and many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by several stepgrandchildren. She was the sister of the late Joseph, William, Paul and Robert Louis Dube, Madeline Fandetti and Barbara Bishop McKinnon.

Her Mass of Christian Burial will be held TUESDAY, OCTOBER 2 at 10 A.M. in St. Jude’s Church, 301 Front Street, Lincoln. Burial will be in St. Ann’s Cemetery, Cranston.

Calling Hours are respectfully omitted. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Mrs. Stewart’s memory to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, MEMPHIS, TN 38105 would be appreciated. Arline, Ted, & Jim, Please accept my sincere sympathy on the passing of your mom. I saw her several years ago at Cortland Place while visiting friends there. She was sitting in a wheel chair waiting to go into the dining room. She did remember me and we had a nice chat.
