Robert C Caldwell -- West Greenwich

Carpenter-Jenks Funeral Home and White Dove Crematory West Greenwich – Robert C. Caldwell, age 82, of Las Cruces, NM and formerly of Victory Highway, West Greenwich died Wednesday, November 28, 2012 at the South Kingstown Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in West Kingston. He was the husband of the late Irene C. (Anderson) Caldwell to whom at the time of her death on March 28, 2011 he had been married since 1954.

Born in Providence he was a son of the late Raymond P. and Gladys (Tillinghast) Caldwell. Mr. Caldwell graduated from Cranston High School; served as a commissioned officer with the rank of Second Lieutenant in the United States Army during the Korean War and continued his military service in the Army Reserves before retiring at the rank of Colonel.

He was a photo engraver employed by Bickford Photoengraving and Heritage Color before retiring in 1989.

In 1989 he and his wife moved from West Greenwich to Las Cruces for the warmth of Southern New Mexico. He became actively involved in Mission Lutheran Church. When living in Rhode Island he and his wife were members of Pilgrim Lutheran Church, Warwick. He was also a member of St. Matthias Episcopal Church in Coventry.

He is survived by two daughters: Christine Southworth and her husband Gary of Exeter, RI, Karen Ann Caldwell-Stalker and her husband James of Las Cruces, NM; one son: Stephen Caldwell and his wife Mary of Somerset, MA; one sister: Natalie Stewart of North Kingstown; four grandchildren: Gregory and Geoffrey Southworth, Elizabeth Rose Caldwell, Charlotte Stalker and two great grandchildren: Madeline Southworth and Jace Medeiros. He was predeceased by his sons Kenneth C. and R. Craig Caldwell and by his brother Raymond Sumner Caldwell.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 8, 2012, at 11:00 am in Pilgrim Lutheran Church, 1817 Warwick Avenue, Warwick. Interment with military honors in the Rhode Island Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Exeter will be private.
