Walter Gilbert Gasner, M.D., 100, of Beach Ave, Block Island, died at home on Wednesday, December 19, 2012 surrounded by his family. He was the husband of the late Shirley (Friedman) Gasner. They celebrated their 74th wedding anniversary this past January. Born in New York City on May 6, 1912, a son of the late Charles and Gussie (Litcoff) Gasner.
Dr. Gasner was chief of dermatology at Albert Einstein College of Medicine from 1955-1974 when he retired. He was a member of the Royal Air Force prior to joining the United States Army Air Corps in 1938. He was a World War II veteran serving as a second lieutenant and continued his service with the Air Force Reserves retiring as a Lt. Colonel in 1974. He was a member of the Post #36 Amber Legion B.I. and a fellow of the American Academy of Physicians.
He is survived by two daughters, Jane Elizabeth Rosman of Andover, MA and Mary Ellen Kane of England; two sons, Douglas Brian Gasner and John Bruce Gasner, both of Block Island; nine grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
