Roy W. Barber, Jr., 75, of Wakefield, died January 5th from complications due to diabetes. He was the son of the late Roy and Frances (Eddy) Barber.
Born in Peace Dale, he was a veteran of the Korean War serving in the Air Force and a retired welder from the Plumbers and Pipefitters Union local 777, New London, CT. Prior to that he, was employed by Electric Boat’s General Dynamics Division.
Roy was best known for his enthusiasm for cars, especially auto body and engine repair. He was passionate in his interest of horticulture and landscape design. In earlier years, he was recognized for his weight training and body building at the Neighborhood Guild in Peace Dale.
He is survived by his daughters; Tracey Barber and Christine Gould both of South County and Melissa Couden of California; his son Kevin Barber of North Kingstown and four granddaughters. He was predeceased by his sister Norma Culligan.
Burial with Full Military Honors will be held on Wednesday January 16th at 10:00AM in the Rhode Island Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Rt. 2, Exeter. Visiting Hours are respectfully omitted. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Home and Hospice Care of RI, 1085 North Main St., Providence, RI 02904. Arrangements made the Forbes Funeral Home.
