Russell D. Culverwell, age 87, a retired salesman, died Tuesday at Rhode Island Hospital. For 50 years he was the beloved husband of the late Beulah (Tyas) Culverwell. Born in Providence, a son of the late Charles E. and Clara A. (Gilbert) Culverwell he lived in Providence most of his life. He worked for Congdon & Carpenter Inc. for 39 years retiring in 1985. He was a US Navy veteran of WWII. For 60 years he was a professional musician who played bass for several bands in the area last playing with “The Pastels”. He was a member of Providence Federation of Musicians, Surprise-Woolhouse VFW Post 329, Cranston, and Branford Electric Railway Association. He is survived by his son, Robert H. Culverwell of Port Charlotte, FL; his granddaughter Melissa Ann Culverwell of Londonderry, NH and his lady friend, Virginia Johnson of East Greenwich.
