A Gentle, Loving Man

New Bedford, MA & Seekonk, MA – Edmundo Neto, 70, of Westdale Avenue, formerly of New Bedford, died Friday, December 21, 2007 at St. Luke’s hospital after a brief illness. He was the husband of Maria (Jacome) Neto.


Born in Sao Miguel, Azores, the son of the late Manuel and Maria dos Anjos Neto, Mr. Neto lived in New Bedford for 36 years, moving to Seekonk in 2005. He was a communicant of Our Lady of Fatima Church in Cumberland, RI.


Mr. Neto was a machinist at Chamberlain Manufacturing in New Bedford until his retirement in 1994. He was also a gifted craftsman who enjoyed fishing, kayaking, gardening and spending time with his grandchildren.


Survivors include his wife Maria; two sons, Paul and his wife Catherine Neto of Attleboro, and Jorge and his wife Dawn Neto of Cumberland, RI; four grandchildren, Matthew Neto and Thomas Neto, both of Seekonk, and David Neto and Julia Neto, both of Attleboro. He is also survived by two brothers, Eugenio Neto of Tampa, FL and Honorato Neto of Clinton, MI, a sister, Palmira Moniz of New Bedford, and several nieces and nephews.


Arrangements are by the J. J. Duffy Funeral Home, 757 Mendon Road, Cumberland, RI. Visiting hours are on Thursday, December 27th from 9:00 to 10:45 AM, followed by a funeral Mass at 11:00 AM at Our Lady of Fatima Church in Cumberland, RI. Interment will be in Hillside Cemetery, Attleboro. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Joseph’s Food Pantry, 208 South Main St., Attleboro, MA 02703.
