Charles W Hudson -- Scituate
Charles W. Hudson 88 of Greenwich Bay Manor and a longtime Hope resident died October 20, 2008. He was the husband of the late Virginia M. ( Butterworth ) Hudson. Born in Providence a son of the late Ellery E. and Bertha ( Richardson ) Hudson and father of the late Lee F. Hudson.
Mr. Hudson was a decorated WWII Army Veteran serving as a Staff Sargent. He fought in the Philippine Islands and was part of the liberation force. Mr. Hudson was a long time employee of the Sherwin Williams Paint Company. He managed stores in Garden City, Olneyville and Westerly. He was a Past President of the Olneyville Businessmen’s Club and was a proud member of Ionic Lodge # 28 F. & A. M. of Greene for over 50 years and the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, Thirty-Second Degree Masons Valley of Providence. Mr. Hudson was an avid sportsman and fisherman. He was the first to get out in the spring for trout and the first one on the ice in the winter. He passed his knowledge willingly to his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was known as the ground hog man of Hope. He would put out a stuffed ground hog on Groundhog Day just for fun and loved to make people happy. He brought smiles wherever he went and will be sadly missed by his loving family and old and new friends.
He is survived by his daughter Charline P. Vande Burgt of Prescott, Ontario Canada, three grandchildren, Dawn Koferl North Carolina, Jill Diemer of Burington, VT and Anson V. Smith, Jr. of Richmond, RI., eight great grandfather; Jake, Luke, Sloan, Shea, Breck, Tre’, Tyler and Lili 8 a brother Carlton Hudson and best friend Mimi. He was the brother of the late Eliza, Alice, Esther, Mabel, Henry, James, Richard, Donald, Everett, Harold and Warren.
Frinds may call at the Carpenter-Jenks Funeral Home 659 East Greenwich Ave. West Warwick Sunday October 26 from 2-4pm with a Masonic Memorial Service at 3pm. Burial will be Private.
