Ruth S Gardner -- Providence

Providence – Ruth Stone Gardner, 98, formerly of Beneficent House, an executive secretary with the law firm of Edwards & Angell for twenty-eight years before retiring in 1975, died Wednesday, December 3, 2008 at Tockwotton Home.

A lifelong resident of Providence, she was the daughter of the late Herbert Thomas and Ida (Spencer) Gardner and a member of the class of June 1927 of Providence Technical High School.

Since 1949 she had been a member of Beneficent Congregational Church and a member of the Women’s Guild. She was also a member of the former Business and Professional Women’s Club of Providence.

She is survived by her nephew Robert Spencer Gardner of Yalesville, CT; her niece-in-law Elizabeth L. Gardner and her grandniece Jane Marie Gardner, both of Lake Hopatcong, NJ. She was the sister of the late Herbert Spencer Gardner, the aunt of the late Allen Thomas Gardner, and great-aunt of the late Margaret Ann Gardner.

Her funeral service will be held on Monday, December 8 at 12 Noon at the Carpenter-Jenks Funeral Home, 659 East Greenwich Ave., West Warwick. Relatives and friends are invited and may call one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Whitinsville, MA. Information and condolences at www.carpenterjenks.com.
