East Providence ~ Erwin F. “Fritz” Lotring, 77, of Rumford, RI, passed away Sunday, March 8, 2009. He was the husband of the late Sally (Oat) Lotring. Born in Norwich, CT, he was a son of the late Theodore and Madelene (Faussner) Lotring. Fritz was a 1949 graduate of the Norwich Free Academy. He was employed by the Norwich Bulletin, Connecticut until moving to Rumford, RI in 1956. Fritz was employed for many years by the Providence Journal until retiring as foreman of the night shift press room in 1991. He also worked part-time for the Pawtucket Times, Pawtucket, RI. An avid golfer, he was a member of the Pawtucket Times Golf League. Fritz was a member of The Graphic Communications International Union. He leaves six children, Theodore F. Lotring, Eileen E. Ullmann, Fred Lotring all of Rumford, RI, Mark W. Lotring of Mapleville, RI, David L. Lotring of Central Falls, RI and Dawn E. Brewster of Georgia; a brother, Alfred Lotring of Stonington, CT; a sister, Hildegarde Lotring Allen of Wisconsin; seven grandchildren; a great-grandson and many nieces and nephews. He was the father of the late Michael E. Lotring and the brother of the late Arnold and Herman Lotring. Services were private. Interment was at Rumford Cemetery, Rumford, RI.
