John A Pellegrino -- Bristol

Longtime member of the Bristol Volunteer Fire Department

Mr. John A. Pellegrino, age 84, of 25 Byfield Street, Bristol, died Monday, May 4, 2009 at the Rhode Island Hospital, Providence. He was the husband of Mary B. “Betty” (Benedetti) Pellegrino, his wife of 60 years. Born in Bristol and a lifelong resident, he was a son of the late Joseph and Madeline (Ragno) Pellegrino. Mr. Pellegrino served as a Seaman First Class in the US Navy during WWII in the Pacific Theatre serving on the USS Baltimore. He was a wire worker for 43 years for Kaiser Aluminum and Chemical Corp, at both of their Bristol and Portsmouth Plants retiring in 1987. He previously worked for US Rubber Co. He was a communicant of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Bristol and a 3rd degree member of the Bristol County Knights of Columbus # 379 for 50 years. He was a dedicated member of the Bristol Volunteer Fire Department serving as a Past Captain and life member of the Defiance Hose Co. No. 1, a life member and ambulance driver for the Division of Emergency Medical Services and a member of the Bristol Fire Dept. Police. He is survived in addition to his wife by a son, John A. Pellegrino, Jr., of Reston, VA and a daughter, Mary Ann Pellegrino of Bristol. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Michael F. and Frank Pellegrino. Funeral services from the Sansone Funeral Home, 192 Wood Street, Bristol, Monday, May 11, 2009 at 9:00 AM with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 Am in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 141 State Street, Bristol. Burial with Military Honors will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Chestnut Street, Bristol. Visiting hours Sunday, May 10 from 4:00-8:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Bristol Fire Dept. and Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 775, or to Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 141 State Street, both Bristol, RI 02809.
