Lilian H (Davies) Grinnell -- Charlestown
Charlestown – Lilian H. Grinnell, 98, of Craig Street, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, June 5, 2009. She was the beloved wife of the late Leroy C. Grinnell to whom at the time of his death in 1999 she had been married sixty-seven years.
She is survived by her son Leroy A. “Roy” Grinnell and his wife Joan of Charlestown; her three grandchildren Lynn G. Sweet of South Kingstown, Stephen E. Grinnell and Scott R. Grinnell both of Charlestown and her four great grandchildren Ann, Taylor, Quinley and Michael. She was the sister of the late Alice Grinnell, Alfred and William Davies.
Born in Birmingham, England, a daughter of the late Alfred and Hannah H. (Dealy) Davies, she came to the United States in 1914 and had lived in Charlestown for seventy-seven years.
Mrs. Grinnell served as an airplane spotter during World War II. She worked as a librarian from 1959-1969 at the Cross Mills Public Library in Charlestown. She was a life member and deacon of the Cross Mills Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school and sang in the choir. She worked as a counselor at Canonicus Baptist Camp in Exeter and she loved to read.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial service on Saturday, June 20, 2009 at 2:00 PM in the Cross Mills Baptist Church, 4403 Old Post Road, Charlestown.
