Raymond Lee Jewett, born 9/23/24, in Altamont, Kansas, died June 15th in Middletown, Rhode Island. A resident of Bristol, Rhode Island, formerly of Dennis, Lincoln, Wayland and Lexington, Massachusetts, Raymond was an exceptional husband, father, friend and an extraordinary humanitarian.
Survived by his wife, Eleanor, of Bristol, RI; his children: Richard L. Jewett and wife, Paula, of Portsmouth, RI; Laura Jewett of Concord, MA; Linda Jewett and husband, Rick Lane of Bainbridge Island, WA and Robert N. Jewett and wife, Sharon, of Franklin, MA. Mr. Jewett was grandfather to Christopher L. Jewett of Redondo Beach, CA; Winston R. Doershuk of Seattle, WA and Raymond L. Jewett, II, of Franklin, MA. Mr. Jewett was the brother of Frances Feeter of Molokai, HI and the late Arthur Jewett of Louisville, KY.
During WW II, Raymond served in Army Intelligence at The Pentagon, where he met and married Eleanor. He received his undergraduate degree from Yale University and went on to earn his MBA at Harvard.
Mr. Jewett was a mentor to many and a philanthropic giver. He donated his time freely for important causes. He was past Board President of Minute Man ARC (Association for Retarded Citizens). He served as Chairman of the Wayland (MA) School Board. He was an ardent and effusive supporter of: Habitat for Humanity, The ACLU, The Smile Fund, Sierra Club, The Heart Fund, Edith’s List and The Hemlock Society.
Raymond was President of Precision Control Products; served on The Board of Directors of NYSE listed Milton Roy Co., Inc. and was President and Chairman of Liquid Metronics, Inc. which was acquired by Sundstrand Corp., a United Technologies Division. Ray, Eleanor and family travelled the world, over their years together, and developed many long-lasting, valued friendships – both business and personal.
Throughout his life, having lost an eye at the age of 6, Ray Jewett devoted much of his time to learning, counseling and fostering achievement and self-reliance in others. Baseball, an early love, was out of the question so, with his one good eye, he took to books. He read voraciously, developing a broad-based knowledge of just about everything. Friends and family lovingly called him “The Original Know-It-All”.
He will be missed.
Memorial arrangements are private. In his name, you may, kindly, make a donation to Ray Jewett’s dearest charity: Minute Man ARC, 1269 Main Street, Concord, MA 01742.
